The Ballroom Dance Club is a University of Virginia club sport and social dancing group founded in 2001 by Melissa Kahn. It is currently run by President Vibha Patil and Vice President D’Michael Thompson, as well as the rest of the Spring 2019 officer board. Since it’s inception, the club has consisted of hundreds of UVa students. It serves both to promote social ballroom dancing on grounds as well as to provide a means for university students to take part in ballroom dancing competitions. Over fifty University students are currently members, many of whom attend yearly competitions at schools such as the University of Maryland, the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard University, and MIT. The club also attends USA Dance competitions such as the Ohio Star Ball and the Mid-Atlantic Championships. The club promotes ballroom in the Charlottesville area by holding social dances, attending USA Dances, and hosting other dancing events. The club also puts on a semesterly showcase to allow members to perform to the University community.
